I was introduced to Lynn Shelton’s films by accident a few years ago. I was in Amsterdam on my own, feeling a bit lost and in need of some cinema-therapy. I found myself at a cute art-deco cinema and was recommended Your Sister’s Sister. I went in having only seen the film’s standard issue rom-com poster and came out with my spirits high and my faith in film restored.
The last couple of weeks have been packed with trawling SpareRoom and viewing houses which is right up there with job-hunting on my list of things I hate doing. It has also been tragic few weeks for the world, and it’s hard to know how to be positive in times like this.
I’m trying to focus on some of the good things and these are some of the small things that having bringing moments of brightness to my days.
Summer is here! Kind of anyway. The sun shines intermittently and it’s warm enough to leave the house without a jacket. Meanwhile, our faulty office air-con shoots chilly blasts at us and we’re forced to wear fleeces at our desks. It’s confusing.
Anyway, I like any opportunity to put together a playlist and the vague attempt at summer we’re experience is definitely call for one. These a songs for light evenings and lounging, for sipping at a bottle of beer and drawing in the condensation on the glass, for soaking up the sun in a park on your lunch break and watching the clouds turn pink as the sun starts to set.
